Authorities in the northwestern Chinese province of Qinghai reported Friday that the death toll has risen to 23, as a result of heavy rains that have affected the locality and generated floods in Datong county.
In the latest report, as of 20H00 (local time), they also indicated that eight people are still missing.
For its part, the emergency response office has reiterated that more than 6,000 people were affected by the consequences of the heavy rains, while some 1,500 were moved to temporary shelters in two local schools.
Authorities assured that search and rescue efforts will continue to find the people reported missing. Last Wednesday night, heavy rains were recorded in Datong and subsequently caused flash floods and landslides, damaging several villages in the area.
In the aftermath, the Ministry of Emergency Management sent a team to Qinghai to assist the people and help in the rescue efforts.
